1998

A career change that would stick.

APL

numérisation0005Bruce left Magnavox Govt and Industrial Electronics Company (MAGIEC) in 1989 to pursue a career as a subcontract software engineer. His first job was with Orbital Sciences Corp in Germantown, MD (now part of Northrop Grumman). But he eventually found his way to the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL or just APL) where he had the fortune to work on the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) spacecraft.

He worked on the project from 1996-1998 and was even credited in the JHU publication following the success of the mission. These photos, taken by someone authorized to do so, were sent to Bruce by Brian Heggestad, the project engineer. This was Bruce's first job in the aerospace industry. He never looked back.
