After Rachel started falling out of the daybed we had her in at our previous house in Reston, VA, Bruce designed this custom bed to keep her safe.
Bruce designed this bed at the kitchen table in the Reston house back in 1995, where it sat until the completion of the new St. Mary's Home facility on Kempsville Circle in Norfolk. We had to break-down the bed, load it into the van (yay, it fit!), then reassemble it in her new room. There was nothing available commercially that worked like this bed; it was a unique design. But eventually, someone did manufacture an institutional quality equivalent, You will see her new bed later in photos after 2013, when she "aged-out" of St. Mary's and moved into a private room in the new Albero House adult extension, which would break ground in 2011 and open in 2013. But this was her bed until that happened.
